Eric and Denise Clements

Eric and Denise Clements know firsthand the life-changing impact a good coach can make.

Eric and Denise Clements know firsthand the life-changing impact a good coach can make. Though their son, Cody, received little encouragement from his high school coaches, he never gave up on his dream of playing Division I college football. In 2017, his determination paid off when he was invited to join the EWU football team as a preferred walk-on.

After a tremendous amount of dedication and hard work—in the classroom, in the gym and on the field—Cody earned the first-string Long Snapper (upside-down quarterback) position and partial EWU scholarship, the beginning of a dream come true. The Clements' attribute Cody's success to the invaluable guidance, leadership, vision, and unwavering support Cody received by Head Coach Aaron Best at Eastern. Under his coach's tutelage, Cody excelled at Eastern, receiving Big Sky Honors for academic standing and team honors for his outstanding long-snapping skills and was selected as Pre-Season All American in his senior year. Cody graduated with honors with a bachelor's in English and a master's in Adult Education.

In their gratitude, the Clements resolved to pay it forward by making a generous gift through their estate to fund an endowed scholarship for future Long-Snappers at EWU. To see their gift come to fruition, the Clements decided to start the Cody R. Clements #47 EWU Long Snapper Scholarship during their lifetime, allowing them to witness and support the dreams of a promising EWU long snapper each fall.
